I recently submitted a homage to Rene Magritte's "The Son of Man" (It's not been approved or rejected yet, so you likely won't have seen it) and speculated to a friend that I would also like to do my own version of The Vitruvian Man. She pointed out that I should check if anyone owns the likeness to the image, so I'm left wondering if there's a simple way of checking what the rules are around this, and who owns the likeness' etc.?

I'm about 99% certain that no one owns the reproduction rights to The Vituvian Man. I can only assume that you can use, modify, or adapt upon it in any way you see fit.
