I just got back from the midnight screening and wow, what a movie. Not just a movie, but the whole trilogy was pretty amazing as a whole.

I won't ramble on too much as I'll end up spoiling it for those who haven't seen it yet, but for those who have, what did you think of the final movie?

EDIT: What happened in Colorado is really sad. To this point, it isn't about politics, movies being too violent, or gun control laws. It's about one deranged individual shooting innocent people. Just being at a midnight premiere last night made me realize it could've easily been where I was.

I though was outstanding; but at times I couldn't understand what Bane was saying. Loved the last 3 minutes

    this.

It was awesome but not as great as the last one with the Joker.
  • Lion Caster

I liked Dark Knight better. Dark Knight Rises was good though. To me The Dark Knight was like having a juicy steak and savoring each bite and really focusing on all the flavors , and Dark Knight Rises was scarfing down a juicy steak just because you're hungry and your belly needed it. I felt like it had a really fast pace and there was alot crammed in it...the first half was eh, and the crescendo was pretty good.

    Literally me when it ended:

Christopher Nolan for all the awards!

Just read that there was some shooting at a movie theater in Colorado, during their midnight showing. 14 people dead, 50 injured :(

    People are nuts.

Yea can't believe about the shooting, I lose a little more faith in humanity each day.

But I thought the movie was pretty awesome. Definitely felt a little crammed which is saying a lot because of how long it was, but definitely an awesome movie and the end was fantastic I thought.
  • JoeBaronDesign

The movie was pretty damn good. It had some minor flaws, but definitely a must see movie. The shooting is sad.
  • 8-bit ZOMBIE

That shooting makes me absolutely sick. Was excited to see this. Not so much now. =(

I went to the WB preview in L.A last night, one of the actors was in the audience. Good movie, Nolan wrapped it up well.

pretty heavy the shooting, constitutional right to carry a firearm is a bit messed up. Not starting a debate, but this comes up quite often in the states.

    Amped to check it!

Even scarier than the constitutional right to carry a firearm is how easy it is to obtain a gun without going through the legal process.

Right to bare arms doesn't in any way affect some nutjob buying a weapon and using it(point in case, this article posted just days ago http://gizmodo.com/5927379/the-secret-online-weapons-store-thatll-sell-anyone-anything). If you really want a weapon, regardless of country and laws, you can attain one. NICS is fairly strenuous in its checks and compliance(not selling to convicted felons, etc.), the issue lies in personal sale where compliance isn't required(though if you sell a weapon through personal sale, and that weapon is found to be involved with a crime you can be damn positive you'll be getting knocks on your door inquiring about your relationship with said weapon), though Colorado has different gun laws than most states as they found it unconstitutional to require permits by law so their state law is more open to free purchase than most(all, in fact currently), but I digress.

On topic: Haven't seen it yet, but will sometime in the next few days. Heard lots of great things though some similar criticisms that Prometheus got(in a different way I suppose, but most have said Nolan tried to wrap up too much in 1 movie that it felt rushed). I rarely buy into reviews because I find more often than not I like movies that get these types of reviews more, so I'll hold judgement until my viewing. Excited, though a little less after last nights events.

If you take away the right to carry the only people who will have guns will be the criminals. 1 wackjob doesn't take away the rights of the masses. You will never stop people like that from doing terrible things.
  • 8-bit ZOMBIE

If guns were outlawed nutjobs like this would make bombs or Molotov cocktails. Really doesn't matter if guns are available or not when it comes to insane and evil people.
  • bleet

Yes agree totally nutjobs are nutjobs. But if arms are that easy to obtain, then it's easy for any nutjob to pull this kinda stuff off. I'm not a expert in Americans constitutional right in having a weapon and maybe I shouldn't have said anything. Just sucks hearing these spontaneous group killings. Gas was also involved apparently...

Going to go watch the movie tomorrow
  • Matt Borchert

Ultimately if you want something, legal or illegal, you will get it. Just takes a little bit of time and the right people. The gun law debate is old and tired because ultimately legal or illegal, people who want them will find them and find them easily.
  • bleet

    Yeah guess so anyway....
  • TRIBE

Yeah I'm with Ross. People are crazy, if they want to inflict harm on others they will find a way. Have they confirmed what the gas was yet? That's crazy in its self especially if he concocted something that is fatal.

Deaths per 100,000 as a result of fire arms:
    South Africa: 74.57
    United States: 10.27
    Australia: 2.94
    England: .46

Granted it's info from Wikipedia (so the numbers may be off), but I think the pattern is pretty obvious. And the whole "people will find a way to inflict harm if they want". Yes, of course they will, but it is a shit load easier / convenient both mentally and physically for someone to pick up a gun and shoot someone than it is to get your hands on a bomb and blow someone up or stab someone to death.

That said, shitty event. Even crazier that one of the girls killed was at the shooting that happened in the area a month previous. I'd be lying if I said it didn't take a bit of the magic of going to the film out from me.
  • TRIBE

This guy didn't have any normal "over the counter" gun. Now they are saying 71 people were shot. Definitely an automatic weapon.

For those statistics to have relevance to the argument that violence will happen regardless of the weapons available, wouldn't you have to compare those numbers against ALL violent deaths/murders?

Does pulling a trigger to end life make it easier than stabbing, bludgeoning, blowing up, etc? I honestly don't know. You'd still have to be in the mind-set to end a life regardless of how you are doing it, right? Does it make it easier to kill MORE people? I think that argument could be made but again, there are even more destructive weapons out there and many can be made in someone's home.

Not denying that guns are only meant for one purpose and are dangerous. (And I'm no gun-nut or anything like that) Just not sure I believe that simply having guns available to people make it much easier to for people to kill. Maybe using a gun does make it easier for a person to end a life, like I said, I just don't know.

I remember reading several stories from China in particular where someone with a knife went on a rampage at a school, killing multiple people/children. Unfortunately murder and mass-murder happen all over the world on a daily basis. Ultimately the real weapon is a deranged/ill/evil mind.

(Sorry for going so far off topic)
  • akillerwombat

@8-bit, I actually just chose to showcase deaths from fire arms as a whole instead of just fire arm related murders. But if you were to look at just murders per country from a result of fire arms vs total homicides it would play out:

Africa: Only had South Africa, 32 (total) vs 74.57(gun)
    United States: 4.8 vs 4.14, 86%
    Australia: 1.16 vs 0.44, 40%
    England: 1.23 vs 0.07, 1%

First and foremost, Africa is fucked. But I think it pretty obviously shows that places with less guns results in less murders from guns. And yes, I know how obvious that sounds, but the staggering polarity between the 4.14 in the United States vs the .44 and .07 in Australia and England is hard to ignore.

Don't get me wrong, I am personally for allowing people to own guns because I know people do like to hunt and go shooting. But hand guns are the most pointless things for people to own (and I know plenty of people with them). The problem is though is that guns have already become so ingrained in our culture it would be near impossible to get rid of them, both legally and illegally. I sort of see it like weed, try as hard as you want to get rid of the guns but the systems are already so developed to keep the black market moving that you aren't going to accomplish shit.

(no worries about going off topic, these are conversations people should be having, regardless of online or not. The problem is you get immature people not allowing them to really take place)

... update: looked into Africa's murder rate. Couldn't find an exact number but they said last year, 36% of the worlds homicides took place in Africa. That's 5% more than both North and South America combined, and we all know how fucked up Mexico was last year.

Unfortunatly I think it's too late for gun control in America. I think most of you are right and if some nutjob wants to get a gun for these purposes he/she will and can. It is ingrained in America's culture and history, I don't see how you can change that? I live in NZ and have never even seen or heard of anyone having a handgun, machine gun or anything other than a rifle or shotgun. Handguns and machine guns are designed for one purpose: to kill people. Our police don't even carry guns. Thankfully these guns have never really been intergrated into our culture.

Personally Im not going to let some asshole ruin a movie for me, although that is easy for me to say living so far away. I hope you people in America don't let him ruin it for you. Im going tonight and Im looking forward to it!

Back to the threads originial intention.

Movie was great, served it's purpose in closing a chapter and ending a trilogy. My favorite of the three, although most disagree and claim dark knight was better.

    It's a must see.
  • Streetcorner

Im with you Pitchgrim. Loved it! Maybe I have strange taste though? Batman begins was my favourite before seeing this.
  • MSTRMIND

What a damn good ending to an amazing trilogy! I really enjoyed the grander scale of the chaos shown in this one and the social commentary involved in it. It is my favorite of the three as well.
  • Lmerrill

I loved the redub of Bane's voice. He sounded so awesomely comic book-y!

It was absolutely brilliant. Christopher Nolan makes art.
  • Craig Robson

i really enjoyed the movie, thought it was moving and had all the highs and lows i like in entertainment. glad bane actually broke batmans back, nice little nod to the comic timeline.

really liked how offbeat and strange the intonation on banes voice was, made him absolutely incongruous to any region and although he sounded slightly "english" it was like that learned english you hear in eastern and indian cultures. very cool little nod.

although i didnt totally fall for hathaway i thought she was sexy enough, didnt get me by the balls like catwoman should but i cant complain too much.
  • Sushilove

Outstanding movie... I wouldn't say it's better or worse than the dark knight, just the perfect final chapter of an amazing trilogy. I was almost in tears at the end.
  • Kyle Crawford

anyone who is going to come in here and not expect spoilers, sorry....

ok so it was awesome. Not as good as the dark knight, which was truly a comic book movie dream for me. I watched it again last night and I still cant believe how awesome it is and was, the marketing for the film, everything....

    now TDKR.

    theres some flaws.
    - bane is I guess is the same age in flash backs
    - bane is apparently a pussy, crying? REALLY crying? suck it up pussy
    - the same in EVERY batman movie, no mask after a batman outing, and no black make up around the eyes. ALWAYS hated that
    - did blake really have to be called robin, just say tim or timothy, because obviously it wasnt going to be dick
    - this movie was apparently 8 years after TDK. There is ABSOLUTELY no way, zero zilch nada, no way no how. How could you not know your company is not turning a profit, how could all this bullshit go down and you be a hermit and just not know, a year, 2 years, that's more feasible

the movie was great, it wasnt really too comic bookesque, which is fine. it was realistic, which was great. but to me, they made bane awesome in some parts, and then nothing more of a, yea do this, wave my hand I am so scary and pwerful blah blah blah. pointless. him getting his hands dirty, that was the real bane to me. He was nothing more than a bitch when he wasnt

there is no way that this is the end of the series. Bane isnt dead, no joker explanation, I dont believe harvey is dead. The only one who is actually dead, is rachel ( thank god that maggie bitch is so fucking haggard looking, makes me want to shit on myself tubgirl style)

thats all I can think about for now, Im sure i will rant more later once people chime in
  • Sushilove

agree on the 8 years thing... that was a bit too much time.

but we don't get to see much of bane face in the flashbacks, so we don't know his age at the prision. he could be 20 something there and 40 something now, and we don't see his face now so we can't see aging signs.

agree also on not being the end of the series... hollywood is known for milking its money-cows to death... and the end is pretty open.
