Hey guys,

I am after a printer plotter in the next few months, preferably one that prints full colour. I've been doing a bit of research and seems Roland are pretty nice but also fairly pricey.

Any other makes out there that are worth a look?

Thanks in advance.

The only experience I have is with an epson 7800. We use it mostly to print our film but it does a pretty good job printing full color. We hardly ever need to do any maintenance on it. It prints at a glacial pace though.

you're basically talking about a ditial printer with plotter function, right?
all of those can print full colour, since the run with CMYK (some plus special inks) inks. how wide would you need to print/cut? there are also different types of inks - latex, solvent based, water based etc. you might want to take that into account too.
Mimaki or Mutoh have some affordable ones, Roland is good, but not cheap. Summa could be another option.

Thanks Jupit, Yea that's what i am after.. pardon my ignorance i really didn't know the difference nor the right name for what i was looking for. I will check out those other brands but yea Roland is looking like a tasty £4500 which i don't wana spend. Prob don't need a massive one as it's more of a little side thing to offer another service with printing. Thanks

maybe there's someone who sells refurbished ones in your area? something with warranty though, so you don't have to buy from some sketchy Ebay seller. I imagine, there must be something like that. there's a market for everything "used". watch out for busted printer heads though - they're probably the most expensive and important part of the printer.
they're pricey for a reason and not to be confused with ordinary office printers ;)
