Need advice for finding Web designer

Howdy

My name is Derrick and I'm looking for a web designer to build my brand's website. I apologize if this has been asked before. If so, could you please link me to that page? I was just hoping for some advice that any of you have regarding finding a web designer. Here a few of my questions:

-Should I look on craigslist, here on mintees, or are there any other freelance websites that you recommend?
-What kind of things should I have in my initial post and what should I ask the webdesigner (terms etc.)
-Do you have an opinion on how much it will cost me (mockup website below)

Here's a screen shot I took of the quick mockup of what I'm trying to have the website look like:

As you can seen i'm not looking to something super fancy. The design is not final by any means and am open to suggestions and changing it.

Here are my current spec/needs:
-Looking to work with a local web designer and meeting in person (Southern California/Bay Area)
-looking to spend less than $1,000 - of course, cheaper the better :)
-Blog page
-Webstore (planning on using customized bigcartel)
-I was hoping to build the page with Wordpress so updating the page will be easier.

I've used both The Black Axe and Trey Cook and had equally good yet different experiences and would highly recommend both of them. I couldn't tell you their rates/availability though, that's totally up to them, but what I can tell is to just be as specific as possible without writing a novel so they can give you the most accurate quote possible and they know if it's something they can handle right off the bat. Neither of the two companies I worked with were local to your area, but it's really not necessary in my opinion.

Hi all,

I just wanted to reopen this thread. I'm currently looking for a webdesigner again.I would ideally like to work with someone locally in the Southern California area. obviously you have a really great list of web designers already here in the comments but failing these I know a guy who is absolutely astonishingly good at web design who needs to build his name in the industry.

His dribbble is the only thing I can find right now as he took his website down whilst he is sorting his folio out etc.
