What are you looking to get out of it? I mean a mouse, is a mouse, is a mouse. But if you're into gaming or need some hardcore precision than your needs are more fine tuned.

I use a Logitech G5 laser mouse at home and really like it. On the fly adjustability, weighted, and nice texture.

yeah the IT department at my work bought us r.a.t. 9's. they're a bit extreme for my taste but highly customizable. lots of shortcut keys on it. i've found that mine tends to stick and glitch a lot though so i personally can't recommend them.

Mostly designing? In that case I strongly suggest considering a tablet like a Wacom.

A mouse is a mouse to me - I can't ever remember thinking either "wow, this is a GREAT mouse" or "damn does this mouse suck". Same with keyboards.

I totally agree with using a tablet. Even if its one of the $50 bamboo just to get used to using it.
