not to be a party pooper but: firstly i wouldnt pick any of the designs you have as options, they are sort of basic and look very uninspired and thoughtless.
secondly, as a company it is your responsibility to dictate what your customers want to buy, think of people like johnny cupcakes (extreme example i know) he never asks :hey what should i print?" because he knows the identity of his brand inside and out.

be confident and have a great idea and you will find that YOUR choices will mold how your company looks.

No its fine thank you i just want input and advice like i said im extremely new and am open to any advice. I wanted to have simple designs, are they too simple? Is there a few that you think have more potential then others? or should i spend a lot more time making the designs more complex?
  • Craig Robson

its not so much about complexity, its about knowing what will make a nice t-shirt or whats going to reflect your brands mission. my advice would be to hire a designer who knows what he is doing and get them to produce some great designs for you.
  • Cpautz

That was my goal, a more simple style with greek/roman roots and influences. I feel like hiring a designer, while creating a more professional shirt dosen't have the personal inspiration that i feel like i can pour into my own designs(even if they are pretty bad right now).

dp always makes me think of double penetration. No matter what. Thats the only one that caught my eye

All of them need a lot more work, and it isn't about being more complex. Simple designs that are great and wearable are so much more difficult than some people think.

Simplicity is one of the most "complex" things that you can pull off in design, because every detail has to be absolutely perfect as any flaws will quickly show through.

So what would be your advice to make the designs better? like what im asking is what changes would it take for you to want to buy one of the shirts?

You seem to have a really positive attitude which is great. I think with the right designer working for you, you'll be fine.
  • Cpautz

The thing is i really dont want to go with a designer. I know it would be smarter but im willing to fail my way to where i need to be. So any advice on the designs would be awesome. But thank you all for the input already.
  • dominantdinosaur

make them bigger :D more visible and more value for your money when you print them.
  • Cpautz

So i took what you all said and worked really hard to change what you said so heres 3 designs that i think are better and still embody my goal as a designer.

I hope they are at least better then the old ones. Any critique is welcome good or bad.

Not to bring you down but to be completely honest I think you need to grow as a designer first before trying to sell those designs on a shirt or anything else. If you're persistent on getting a line up and running, like Craig and the Lonely Kid, I'd suggest hiring a designer. You already said you don't want to go that route so I'm gonna stick with my first statement.

Looking at your profile and the designs you liked, I can tell you have great taste and I believe this will really help you grow as a designer in general. Keep motivating yourself and keep inspiring yourself with different styles. As time passes by and the more you try out different things, you will evolve as a designer. I'm sure that when you look back one year from now, you will laugh your socks off at your own designs. In a year you will agree with me on this and say the designs are actually immature and unprofessional.

Like stated before, you have a great attitude so keep pushing yourself to the next level. But don't start a line before you are 100% sure you are ready as a designer.

My advice is to do your research. Starting a brand from scratch with no experience is a very difficult task for some. You have to do your research look at other brands similar to yours and see if they are successful in that niche. If not whats the point of trying to drive on a road with a dead end. I recommend reading Threads not Dead by Jeff Finley from Go Media. It covers a lot of things that can get a newbie off in the right direction. After reading it you will have a decision to make continue in this arena where only the strong survive or put your tail between your legs and sell lemonade instead.

Why would you actively seek out failure? Not that Mintees is the be-all, end-all design society of the world or anything - but you've had a few people who make a decent living out of this sort of thing advise you to scrap all of these designs (and rightfully so) yet you seem to be dead set on releasing these pieces anyway. If your concern is budget and not being able to afford hiring anyone - just wait, don't cut corners and put out the first thing that comes to mind just to say you've made something. It took me almost 4 years of hard work in this business before I felt I was ready to release my own products. Patience and humility are both key factors in this business that everyone needs more of.
