My good buddy, and long time emptees/mintees member, Thomas Bailey has launched a kickstarter project for a series he is working on called The adventures of Rogue Wombat & Stab Murderer. I've read the script for the pilot and watched some footage and this is definitely not to be missed. Super funny stuff, for fans of Workaholics, Pineapple Express, Kickass and Always Sunny.

Please take a moment and check it out, even if you can't donate - spreading the link can go along way.

i'll be honest, it's really hard to support something without seeing any actual footage. "hey guys i have this show i think will be really funny, but nothing to show you guys, will you guys give me money for it?" doesn't really do it for me.

Big thanks to Justin for putting this up, ever since the emptees / mintees change over I kinda died off in the merch design world and have transitioned more towards media production.

I totally get where you're coming from and completely understand why you would be hesitant as even with huge name actors, multi-million dollar budgets, and gigantic marketing campaigns a huge number of films and shows just fall flat. We were actually going to shoot a trailer but at the last minute had to drop the lead as he strangely morphed into a huge diva over changing up one of the characters (Rogue Wombat was originally Pandaman, but I found out there is already a Pandaman out there and once I discovered it there was no way I could tread one someone elses work). We've already had some amazing support from people in this community, both financially and letting me nag them with constant, "is this funny?" or "is this too offensive?" throughout the day and just wanted to get it in front of more eyes.

The thing about the film world is that you almost never have actual footage during the funding stage as it is quite expensive to do, and I just don't have enough on my own to make it at a quality I am happy with. Sometimes you will get a few CGI tests to prove a certain technology can be pulled off but you typically just get some famous names attached to a project, a screenplay, and that's about it. And the fact that my stand in buddy (as amazing as he looks in that costume) isn't an actor, I wasn't going to try and scrape something together that I wasn't 100% proud of. So, I tried to take the more traditional route: tossed together a little informative video, handed out some of the script (which you can find here: http://www.thecoppeestop.com/pdfs/rogue_wombat_and_stab_murderer.pdf , tried to offer a few rewards, and am hoping to get a little help to get the ball rolling... I am pretty bummed though, I was going to offer web design services as a rewards but Kickstarter booted that idea.

In all honesty though, I am beyond stoked you even checked out the project! Depending on who you ask it's been an passion / obsession of mine for the last 6 months so to just announce it to the world has been fantastic. Who knows, maybe I'll hit you up if the project gets funded to design a shirt... I really dig your refused work.

I promise this isn't a ploy to try and change your mind but check out the script, I would love to hear what you think. Email me: bailey@stabawombat.com

No worries, you were voicing your opinion. Justin did a really good job referencing other shows as those are some of my favorites so I welcome the comparison. If you dig those first pages and are eager to read more email me and I can hook you up, I just don't want the entire thing floating freely around the internet just yet.

going to give the first few pages a read later tonight. awesome to see people creating and putting things out themselves and i admire anyone trying break into film or acting. i have a brother that lives out there and has been trying for a few years, so i know it's not easy.

Does he have a demo reel up, we are still flushing out the cast and if he looks like he could fit the part we might call him in?

It is so fucking hard to get anything of your own going out here, it really is an industry of who you know and I don't know anyone, haha. I have had a few discussions with some smaller production companies about the project but they want me to rewrite a bunch of it to make it a lot more 'pitch friendly' and honestly, fuck that. We have done a ton of work to get it funny for us, and we're making it for us... hoping there are people like us out there that appreciate this style of work.

Thankfully over the last year or so I have some luck landing leads in a few indie features that will help out on some of the shooting but I really wanna make it look professional which will require a bit more money then I have right now. Same goes with cmeyers, if you dig those first few pages hit me up bailey@stabawombat.com and I can pass some more over.

The DMX line was great lol.

    Good luck with this!
  • ShineOn

Yeah best of luck with this. Serious respect to anyone who is willing to kick in $5k of their own cash to get an idea of theirs in motion.

I wrote a comedy web-show once. They were about 22 minutes each, with 2 minutes of commercials added on for a total of 24 minutes. Shit got expensive fast.

Always wanted to get into comedy acting as well, so I support anyone's choice to follow film.

Would love to help out, will donate once paypal gives me my money.

(Are you the same A Killer Wombat that does the CD templates?, if so, I should DEFINITELY donate. Those things are killer. Your site doesn't work for me all the time though, I tried buying one the other day)

Thanks, I really dig that line also, product of writing at 3am, haha. I wish I could share the rest of it, that character has some fantastic lines.

Gotta be willing to commit to your passion, right? I won't lie though, it's really nerve racking.

No way, thats bad ass, what was it about? It is insane how fast everything starts to add up, all the shit you don't think about while its still just the idea. Did you make / how many episodes did you shoot?

(and yeah, that's me. The site got hacked and ever since it's been acting strange. Pretty frustrating but it get maybe 3 hits a month so I don't fix it... I guess I should. Shoot me an email with what one you wanted and I'll hook you up).

Thanks heat. I think we were throwing around the idea of a foreign criminal at one point, so we may end up reaching out!

It was about 4 friends trying to ride bikes across America to try and raise support and awareness for Erectile Dysfunction. It was actually pretty funny. We didn't scrap the idea, it's just on the backburner for now. We have a bank account where we save money and put maybe 10 a week into for two years now. We shot 3 episodes, interest was mild, we have a DVD floating around somewhere. I'd say it's more like 'The League'.

I am just going to donate to the kickstarter, let me get paid for this poster design and it will go right to you.

Also, that's the template I keep trying to buy! I am probably all three hits to the site. haha.

Thanks dude, I would love to see the stuff you shot. I dig the premise and could see it working in a League style format.

Thomas, if you feel comfortable tossing me a few pages of the script, I'd love to give it a read! I've seen you post about this project, so I'm pumped to see it taking shape! Also, Justin's got me pretty stoked after reading his comparisons/description.

To everyone who has emailed me, thanks for the words of encouragement! Being a designer for so long now it's strange to feel nervous about something you're creating, and sharing writing is extremely nerve racking... so a big thank you.

I had a few minutes this morning quickly sketch out a scene from the show and tossed it up on kickstarter for those interested.
