"Hacked" is perhaps a bit of a strong phrase. It makes it sound like it was a deliberate attempt to sabotage the network, when the current working theory is a bit more -
Sony has more than one PSN. They have a couple of other networks used for internal testing, they have names like prod and np. Microsoft is the same, they have Xbox Live and "PartnerNET", an Xbox-live for dev consoles as it were. Anyhoo, If you have a Debug/TEST PS3, that's what network you get on, not PSN. With all the jailbreak and CFW stuff going on, it's actually pretty easy to get a retail PS3 to log onto one of these other networks. It's nothing new and something that was possible last year, I think it was even possible with the "PSJAILBREAK" dongle, but I'm not 100%.
Anyway, it was largely pointless because it wasn't "real" PSN, you couldn't play games on it, etc. so most people just left it alone.
So then CFW came along and people went mad on PSN. Eventually Sony stopped them getting online. A workaround was found and Sony patched that and there was a bit of cat-and-mouse going on. Eventually Sony properly cut off PSN from all CFW users. All they had left was these non-production networks to connect to. Not much use. However, someone DID find a way to connect to the REAL game servers while on the non-production PSN, a kind-of weird hybrid PSN. Word about this spread far and quick and a week or two later, suddenly Sony pulls down PSN due to an "Intrusion". Sounds to me like they've noticed their private networks were getting flooded by modded consoles and panicked.
and for those who don't know: CFW means custom firmware.

You're going to ruin it for me because you want to be a selfish dick?

This is all a retaliation against Sony for removing other OS support in the PS3 and for taking the person who originally hacked the console to court. They're not messing with PSN just for the sake of it.

I don't really care what their stupid justification is
If they're unsatisfied with the product they can sell it
They don't speak for me or anyone else who is as pissed as I am
They're not helping their case
They're just making themselves look like stupid entitled assholes
So what if you don't like a product you should be allowed to burn the store down?
I hope Sony drags all of them to court

Didn't say I agreed with their actions, just explaining why they are doing it. To be honest, I don't blame them. This has much less to do with being unsatisfied with the PS3 and much more to do with Sony's actions. I'm sure they would just sell their PS3s if they didn't like them. Removing other OS support, which was a big feature for a lot of users and is probably the reason those users bought a PS3, and Sony suing someone for modding a console are both ridiculous, especially suing someone. He bought the console, he can do whatever he wants with it. Would Ford sue me if I mod my car? I think they are entitled being able to change the OS because that was a huge feature and are entitled to mod the console because you know, they own it. Them suing the user who modded the console is basically them saying that you don't really own your console, you're only renting it from Sony. If you do something Sony doesn't like, you will be punished.

I can agree with that but the appropriate action would be to take Sony to court
Not to knock the whole damn system out and ruin it for everyone else who has a PS3
I have no place in this battle and yet I like many others are losing the most
It's starting to anger me.

the reason this is bad for sony is it allows these users access to certain things they shouldn't be able to access.
it would appear sony have panicked and just pulled the plug so they can fix the security issues once and for all.
they are using 'anonymous' as a scapegoat as the group were involved at an earlier stage in retaliation to george hotz's lawsuit but have stated no involvement with the current 'intrusion' issue sony are claiming.
but although 'anonymous' claim no involvement as a group... it doesn't deny 'anonymous' members may have acted individually.
who knows.
