Easy Concentric Circles in Photoshop
Posted October 12th, 2010 by Jimi Benedict
1. Make a new image. For the purposes of this tutorial, make one 50 wide x 100 height pixels.
2. Fill the top half with black.
It should look like this little turd:
3. Edit > Define Pattern.
4. Now open a new canvas. For the purpose of this tutorial, let's make it 2000x2000.
5. Create a new layer, fill it with color, and set the pattern overlay in your layer styles to the newly created pattern. Merge down to another layer to "bake" the layer style.
It should look like this:
6. Filter > Distort > Polar Coordinates > Rectangular to Circular
VIOLA!
If you play around with different patterns, you can get some interesting concentric circle patterns to add to your arsenal of stock art elements.

UPDATE:
Based on this tutorial, I had an idea.
The higher the design element is in the canvas of the pattern, the closer/tighter the elements surround the center.
If the elements are at the bottom of the pattern canvas, they will distort.
